Lessons
If you can't skate, or you have only skated a little and want to improve, then I can teach you.
Call me to arrange lessons. I often skate in People's Park at the weekend, weather permitting, so you are very welcome to just turn up on the day. However, you then run the risk either (a) my not being there or (b) a full class.
Lessons cost £15 for adults, £9 for children or concessions, £20 for families (up to five people). They last approximately one hour and will generally cover one skill. I do not recommend booking multiple lessons in a weekend. This will allow you time to practice each skill before building on it at the next lesson. Payment can be made on the day or in advance.
Teachable Skills
If you don't already skate then I recommended, as a minimum, that you book three lessons. These cover safety, beginner movement, stopping and turning. If you attend all seven lessons you will learn these skills:
- Basics, safety and beginner movement (this is a longer session)
- Stopping using the heel brake
- A-frame turn
- Forward swizzle (lemons)
- Intermediate movement
- Spin stop
- Parallel turn
Not Sure?
Unsure about learning to skate? If you have children under 13 then why not go for a few sessions at the YMCA in Halifax. This is an easy way to try out skating before you spend money on equipment. They run two sessions on Friday evenings, starting at 16:45 and 18:00. The cost per session is £2.20 and includes skate hire.
